Position Overview:
Big Blue Swim School Columbia offers a fast-growing, mission-driven program that aims to show kids they can do anything by unlocking their full potential in the water. We are hiring for a General Manager to oversee ongoing operations of the Columbia, MD pool (the first of four locations planned for the Baltimore Metro area).
The General Manager will work closely with the owners and is responsible for maintaining a culture of fun for both staff and clients, operations, front-desk customer service, lesson quality, staff training and performance. This role ensures every function of the Big Blue facility is operating in a superior, professional, and fun manner. The ideal candidate will be an excellent team player, have great communication skills, experience managing hourly and full time staff, and be driven to succeed within the company.
Although the position will not involve travel once established, it should be noted that the General Manager will be sent, at the company’s expense to Big Blue headquarters in Chicago for three week of Manager training in August 2024.

Key Responsibilities:
- Direct management responsibility for 25-30 hourly and full time staff, employee policies, payroll and benefits.
- Manage the facility’s training, scheduling, hiring, and performance assessment, including ensuring the facility is properly staffed at all times.
- Ensure teachers are adhering to Big Blue Swim School principles and curriculum
- Resolve facility issues and customer concerns in a professional manner.
- Create a positive and fun environment for both students and staff.
- Oversee facility budgets, meet financial targets, and implement revenue generating initiatives.
- Maintain proper pool chemicals and pump room operations.
- Manage inventory levels for pool chemicals, pro-shop items, cleaning supplies, etc.
- Ensure safety of patrons and staff in the facility at all times
Qualifications:
- 3+ years management experience of 15+ hourly staff members.
- High School Diploma/GED required, Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred
- Lifeguard/CPR, lifeguard instructor, and certified pool operator certifications (training provided)
- Ability to multitask in a fun, fast-paced environment
- Must possess the ability to communicate and respond to student and customer interactions
- Ability to work in the pool as needed
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. and ability to stand and walk throughout the facility for extended hours for work requirements
- Ability to safely work with pool chemicals.
- One weekend workday per week (either Saturday or Sunday)

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly working in and around a pool environment including warm temperatures and wet conditions. Working with chemicals is a regular part of this job. The noise level in the work environment may be moderately loud. This job also works in a standard office environment.
