Medical Assistant/Front Office Support
We are seeking competent, conscientious, service-oriented individuals with strong character to work in one of our gastroenterology medical offices in Tampa serving as Medical Assistant and providing support to the front office. These individuals will predominantly be supporting the clinician in the exam rooms, but will be comfortable cross covering the front office. They will work under the direction of the division's practice manager.
Requirements:
Minimum: High school graduate with 2 year of medical office experience utilizing EMR/practice management systems. Some openings may require Phlebotomy experience. Must have the ability to multitask, take initiative, and work in a fast-paced medical environment.
Spanish fluency required.
Criminal background and drug screening required as well as excellent professional references.
Preference: Certified Medical Assistant; e-Clinical Works experience; At least 1 year of specialty practice experience; Preference may be given to candidates meeting minimum requirements who have work experience from employers that emphasize excellent customer service.
Role:
Medical Assistant (50 - 95%)
Room Patient
- Obtain and input basic history and reason for visit.
- Obtain and input vitals.
Maintains Clinical Area
- Maintains inventory and equipment.
- Maintains a hygienic and organized area.
Supports Medical Practitioner
- Assists in clinical service (including phlebotomy if appropriate) as directed by physician and within CMA/State of Florida scope.
- Enters clinical data accurately and efficiently in the medical record.
- Readily provides medical chart info (including from outside practices and labs).
Patient Liaison
- Assists with patient education.
- Assist in ePrescribing and/or other national incentive program requirements).
- Communicates physician instructions and helps facilitate follow up visits.
- Responds to patient inquiries/triages calls in a timely and professional manner.
Front Office (<50%)
Check-in
- Greet and arrive all patients in a courteous manner.
- Ensure patients complete the required documentation and their information (insurance, demographic, etc) is current in the medical record.
- Enter appropriate data into EMR.
- Perform insurance verification in practice management system.
- Collect any patient copayments and balances.
Check-out
- Inquire if patient has any more questions from their visit. Alert supervisor if service recovery needed.
- Collect any co-insurance or balances not collected during check-in.
- Schedule follow-up appointments.
Scheduling
- Schedule office appointments and if applicable procedures scheduling.
- Request PCP or referring doctor, authorization, office notes, and diagnosis codes related to the procedure(s).
- Respond to requests for medical records or other forms to be completed by providers.
- Recommend actions and strategies to improve patient access.
Additional Billing/Telephone
- Patient registration functions if scheduling new patient.
- Charge capture of physician services as necessary.
- Participate in patient financial assistance.
- Maintain current with HIPAA and other compliance training.
- Reconcile daily charges and payments received; and prepare daily bank deposit.
- Assist in collection efforts via phone.
- Triage incoming phone calls in an effective manner.
