Welding Engineer/Program Manager
Since our inception in 2002, American Engineering & Manufacturing Inc, a Service Disabled, Veteran Owned, Small Business located in Elyria, OH, has developed a reputation as an industry leader in engineering services, prototyping and product development in the specialty metals arena. Our products and technology solutions are primarily used by the Defense Department and designed to keep our troops safer when called to hostile areas of operation. Our specialties are in advanced automatic welding (processes and systems), machine controls, phased array inspection and innovation. Our welding, controls and non-destructive equipment is complemented with wire EDM, manual turning, milling and fabrication tools that support our operations. The working environment will be research and development with both established and cutting-edge processes with the expectation that the work will transition to prototype production.
We are currently seeking to recruit a welding engineer/program manager whose responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Operation and oversight of a unique workshop focused on welding, inspection, and innovation.
- Liaison with customers and preparation of project proposals.
- Identification and application of processes and techniques with the potential to improve manufacturing.
- Preparation and delivery of process development and project reports.
- Troubleshooting of manufacturing and welding operations (i.e., mechanical equipment and weldability issues).
- Oversight of research and development projects at universities and technical colleges.
- Directing the development of artificial intelligence for welding and inspection technologies.
- Preparation of design descriptions for mechanical and or electrical requirements.
Position requirements
Applicants must have:
- Theoretical understanding of the gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, shielded metal arc, submerged arc, and plasma arc welding processes.
- Wide-ranging Welding and Engineering experience.
- A knowledge of commercial and/or military welding qualification and fabrication specifications.
- Theoretical understanding of the welding of ferrous and non-ferrous base metals. This understanding includes but is not limited to the bulk base metal microstructure, bulk phase transformations of the base metals and weld metal that can occur during a welding process, and the proper selection of filler metals.
- A qualification in Welding Engineering is required.
- Strong communication skills.
- Must have the ability to obtain a US government security clearance, if required.
