Shift Schedule-16 days on, 12 days off. While on shift you are based in the desert within our operating area with the clients. In the summer you stay in individual backpacking tents and in a yurt or white wall tent with a heat source in the colder months! Job Description for Field Instructor
Summary Reports to Field Director and therapists; assists higher level field instructors and therapists to ensure field safety and client supervision; assists in providing direct care and teaching primitive living and outdoor skills to clients.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities Assists with supervision, provides safety guidance, and determines whereabouts of clients. May be responsible for monitoring day-to-day health and safety concerns such as physical health, hygiene, and food intake. May utilize and teach approved curriculum. Participates in delivering valuable experiences for growth and development for clients. May monitor and record client growth and development on a daily basis. Assists with demonstrating and teaching primitive living skills, use of field equipment, gear, and supplies necessary for successful participation in the program. May report efforts in weekly meetings with supervisors, clinicians, and other applicable staff. Communicates client progress with members of treatment team.
Level of Supervision Given Does not direct or supervise other employees.
Received Works under immediate supervision and from detailed verbal and written instructions.
Business Contacts Internal Clinicians, Field Director, and other program personnel.
External May interact with parents and referral sources occasionally on routine matters.
Educational/Licensing Requirements Education or Equivalent Must be at least 21 years of age; high school diploma or GED required; experience in adventure/wilderness programs helpful.
Certificates/Licenses First aid and CPR required; EMT, WEMT, or WFR certification preferred; must have Crisis Prevention Institute’s NVCI or equivalent training in the last 12 months. (If you do not have the required training blueFire will provide the training on or before a start date.)
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience Familiarity with relevant regulations; must be patient, innovative, a team player, detail oriented, able to handle multiple tasks, and be calm and competent in stressful/crisis situations; must maintain appropriate example to clients in all areas of personal conduct and appearance.

Job Description for Field Instructor
Physical Requirements Carrying up to 60 pounds, reaching, bending, and climbing; mastery of primitive living skills and hiking great distances.
Decision-Making Responsibilities Exercises best judgment regarding the immediate physical health, safety, and welfare of participants; needs ability to judge when situations require immediate attention from a more senior-level staff member.
