Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).
Upholds the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the rules and regulations of the Piedmont Virginia Community College. Provides Police protection of persons and property for the college campus and adjacent or surrounding streets and properties. Services include response for law enforcement, medical; provided with professionalism and courtesy. Provides law enforcement services by patrol of campus property daily. Provides information, directions, and assistance to the campus and surrounding community. Enforces all college parking and traffic regulations. Directs and controls traffic, conducts investigations of vehicular accidents, thefts, first aid events and other incidents as necessary.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
This position will work Monday – Friday—off all weekends and state holidays. Shifts may vary based on need.

Required qualifications:
- Successfully function both mentally and physically under stress and emergency situations
- Successfully communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to safely and appropriately handle agency issued weapons and qualify bi-annually in the use of agency issued firearms in accordance with the minimum standards established by Department Policy.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record and ability to operate a department motor vehicle in a safe manner.
- Experience gathering information and writing reports.
- Experience testifying in legal hearings and in court cases.
- A clean criminal record with no convictions for felonies, domestic violence, or crimes of moral turpitude.
- Must successfully complete a background check and drug screen test.
- Must possess DCJS law enforcement certification for the Commonwealth of Virginia
Additional considerations:
- Previous work experience working in a college, military and/or municipal police environment.
- Prior Community Policing experience.
- Proven subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or credentials.
- Current or former DCJS General and/or Specialty Instructor Certification.
- Possess considerable knowledge of law enforcement, as well as security and safety concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
- Ability to give clear oral and written instructions to elicit compliance with law, policies, and regulations in both routine and emergency situations.
- Possess current CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.
