Barista Latte Artist: Thursday - Sunday 7am to 4pm (32-35 hrs a week).
Pay with NYC Food Protection Certification: BASE PAY Hourly Rate is $17.50 (Range $23.00 an hour with tips).
Starting Pay without NYC Food Protection Certification: BASE PAY Hourly Rate is $16.50 (Range $22.00 per hour with tips). However, in order to be scheduled for an interview you must show proof that you're enrolled in the FREE NYC Dept. of Health Food Protection Certification Course. Base Pay will be raised to $17.50 per hour after employee obtains their NYC Food Protection Certification. If hired, you will be required to obtain the certification within 60 days of hire date.
Latte Art Skills are a required. Must be able to create various latte art designs.
We’re a small growing café and wine bar looking to hire one Experienced Weekend Barista and Latte Artist. We need you to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of coffee and tea. Assist with food prep. Barista responsibilities include educating customers on our drink and food menus, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders.
To be successful in this role, you must be reliable, punctual, well versed in customer experience and have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Must have coffee experience and knowledge of how brewing equipment operates, including a manual espresso machine.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing excellent customer service to all customers that come into the establishment or call for orders following Social House Cafes’ high standard of excellence
- Pay attention to guests and greet guests by making eye contact, smiling and being positive
- A desire to advocate on behalf of the guest as well as notice and pursue when a guest is dissatisfied
- A willingness to jump in and assist with additional duties when needed (bussing tables, greeting guests, running food) and a great team player
- Genuine warmth and hospitality!
- Assist guests with any inquiries and educating guests on menu items and any special promotions
- Openness to learn about our quality products, specialty menu items, and coffee
- Understanding the guest is the center of it all
- Answering questions and assisting guests with order decisions and processes
- Knowing how to suggestively sell to enhance the guest experience and increasing sales
- Take orders using POS system and perform tasks such as cash handling and credit card processing with attention to accuracy while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios)
- Make drinks – various coffees, including latte art designs, tea, and drinks and prepare café food following recipes on the basis and demand during operating business hours. (You must be skilled in food prep and making various latte art designs.)
- Check quality of all the products for displays and organize rotation of displays for all pastries, breads, and desserts
- Refill and organize all pasties and beverages on display
- Prep and serve beverages and prepared foods
- Always keep all areas of the store clean while operating during business hours
- Maintain stock of clean mugs and plates and utensils
- Ensure a constant supply of ingredients
- Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs
- Comply with health and safety regulations
- Understanding that as a retail café, we are open on most holidays. Staff is expected to be available to work their normal shifts or events on holidays unless previously requesting a day off from management.
- Understanding that at any time during your shift you may experience that business can fluctuate from slow periods to fast-paced and vice versa

CERTIFICATIONS
· NYC Department of Health issued Food Protection Certification. OR
· ServSafe Certification is acceptable. However, must be currently enrolled in the free course with NYC Dept. of Health Food Protection program and actively studying for the exam. Must show proof. Must obtain certification within 60 days of hire date. OR
